The job of polymechanic combines several different professions (mechanics, precision mechanics and machine mechanics). It brings together state-of-the-art technology and manual work: covering everything from traditional mechanics to digital control, including assembly, drafting and and measurment.
It is a very demanding job and requires :
- very good grades in mathematics, French and physics.
- logical thinking
- good spatial reasoning
- very precise and meticulous working methods
- team spirit and the ability to work independently
- manual dexterity
- a taste for mechanics and machines
The training alternates between practical work (3-4 days/week) at CERN and theory (1-2 days/week) at the vocational school.
At the end of the training, a Swiss Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (CFC) is obtained. It is also possible to obtain a Professional Maturity qualification during the apprenticeship (provided that the requisite conditions are met).
