Apprenticeships at CERN

CERN trains apprentices in three areas of mechatronics: electronics, mechanics and physics.

By joining our Organization, apprentices get the chance to be supervised by a team of experienced professionals.

CERN offers :

  • a unique working environment
  • a multicultural atmosphere
  • the latest tools and working facilities
  • additional training opportunities
  • an atmosphere that emphasises teamwork, safety and learning

Practical work at CERN is combined with apprentices' theoretical studies at their technical school (in Geneva or Lausanne).

There are three technical apprenticeship paths at CERN :

  • electronics technician (CFC)
  • polymechanic (CFC)
  • physics laboratory technician (CFC)

After four years of training, apprentices obtain a Swiss Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (CFC), with or without a Professional Maturity qualification, which allows them to join the workplace or continue to higher-level studies.
